This poem was written today, in response to Psychology Today’s magazine article which states that black women are perceived to be the least attractive of all women… Read on! I also posted it on Facebook! You are beautiful, my dear sisters from African heritage! Believe not otherwise, no matter what some rigged survey stated! Our beaty exists not only to us, but also the eye of the beholder… As the lies fly around, and mistruths keep getting colder! That same beauty that “we” stepped off those slave ships with Still exists, right up to this very day… That same strength, stamina and comeliness that they desired Made them yank us from our Motherland, though small was the pay! From slave, to mammy, to housemaid, to underling… Despite all of those subservient roles… Our comeliness coexisted with our stamina Resisting oppression, derision, … getting more beautiful like diamonds which crystalize from pressured coals…. Oh yes we are beautiful, most beautiful at that… Though some cannot reconcile our beauty with our new societal status… And have equated our newfound powers in this society with homeliness When indeed all the dues we’ve paid has led to more comeliness… So fret not about this new set of lies, from some London based so-called psychologist Whose respondents probably were paid to our beauty deny For sisters whether they like it or not… Black is still beautiful…black is still “hot”…….and that’s no lie! Love yourselves. Black Sisters! Joyce aka Ms. T aka Joyce Christie-Taylor/dba Akiba Associates
